Job Summary:
The Hospice Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations of the hospice program, ensuring the highest quality of patient care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The DON provides leadership to the hospice nursing team, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and ensures that compassionate and comprehensive care is delivered to patients and families during end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and evaluate hospice nursing staff, ensuring adherence to care standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee patient assessments, care planning, and ensure that care is provided in accordance with individualized patient needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, social workers, and chaplains, to create and execute personalized care plans.
- Ensure continuous staff education, training, and compliance with hospice best practices.
- Monitor patient outcomes, quality assurance measures, and oversee the implementation of performance improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures that align with organizational and hospice standards.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and staff to address concerns and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Manage staffing levels, schedules, and departmental budgets to ensure efficient operations.
- Ensure compliance with state, federal, and The Joint Commission (TJC) guidelines.
Qualifications:
- RN required, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Active RN license in the state of Kansas.
- Experience in hospice or palliative care preferred.
- Previous leadership/management experience in a hospice setting preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of hospice regulations, Medicare/Medicaid, and accreditation standards.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
